Unrestricted
Gifts to Spelman Medical Foundation
* Spelman Medical
Foundation offers you the option of supporting an existing fund,
creating a new fund, or making an unrestricted gift. Unrestricted gifts
are spent in the year they are donated where there is the largest
current need.
* Setting up a new
designated fund: Normally, there
is a $5,000 minimum gift for setting up a new designated fund, and a
$25,000 minimum pledge to set up a new endowed fund. If you are
interested in more information about establishing a new fund please call

Some of the
existing designated funds:
The Center for
Women's Care- Saint Luke's Northland Hospital has taken the lead in
women's services in this region and needs on-going funding to continue
to set the pace for other hospitals.
The Serenity
Garden-Clay-Platte Medical Alliance has taken on a fund drive to
build a garden adjacent to the Center for Women's Care. This lovely
setting will offer a retreat for patients, volunteers and staff at Saint
Luke's Northland Hospital.
Medical
equipment fund-This fund pays for new equipment from better designed
wheel chairs to new radiology equipment and lets the hospital keep on
top of advances of medicine.
Palliative and
hospice fund for Saint Luke's Northland Hospital-Funds to help the
care givers at Saint Luke's Northland Hospital make the end of life care
compassionate.
Saint Luke's
Hospital Employee assistance fund-This fund offers emergency
financial assistance to employees who suffer unexpected economic
problems that threaten their ability to work and care for their family.
Saint Luke's
Northland cardiac programs-Cardiac disease is the number one health
risk in America for both men and women. This fund will support the
advances in heart treatment at Saint Luke's Northland Hospital and
prevent Cardiac disease from developing.
Saint Luke's
Northland Cancer programs-This program includes the digital
mammography screenings offered through the Center for Women's Care.
Community
wellness programs- Free health education, fitness and screenings for
the Northland.
Indigent care
and access to care programs-Many of our neighbors are uninsured and
under-insured. This fund helps provide appropriate care for these
Northlanders facing a healthy crisis.
Alzheimer's
Fund- Started by the Paradise Pointe Ladies Invitational Golf
Tournament in 2005. The fund will support service, help and education
for people who are or have been affected by the difficulties of this
disease.
Health Care
Scholarships- Spelman Medical Foundation offers health care
scholarships for employees and young college students. The two main
scholarships for employees are the Nancy Abramovitz Oncology
Scholarship, The Arch E. Spelman Health Care Scholarship. The Kemp Woods
Health Care Scholarship is limited to college students who have received
the Elizabeth Spelman Scholarship.
The Vicki Welsh
ovarian cancer fund-The fund supports early detection of this
terrible disease and local research to improve prevention and treatment.
Smithville
campus facility improvement fund- Facility improvements that will
help access to the clinical programs located at the hospital
particularly the rehabilitation program.
The Spelman
endowment fund- The endowment preserves its invested principal and
earns annual returns that support the ongoing work of the foundation.
Other Funds-
Hensley Infant Bereavement Fund-Shirley Elam Clinical Excellence
Fund-Sylvia Coma Fund-Cycle of Life Fund.
